Courses

Bachelor of Fine Arts (Production)

The graduates of the Bachelor of Fine Arts (Production) have completed specialist study in the areas of stage management, design and the realisation of sets, costumes, lighting, sound and projection.

Throughout the course students have contributed to the creation of large-scale performances with Music Theatre, Theatre, Acting and Dance students from across the VCA.

Their portfolio of work demonstrates their creativity, dedication and readiness to embark on a career in the Performing Arts.

Bachelor of Design (Graphic Design & Performance Design)

Throughout three years of study in the Performance Design major, the distinct disciplines of Sound, Light, the Figure and Space in Performance are examined in detail through separate core subjects.

The culmination of this program is the capstone subject Performance Design Studio, in which students combine these scenographic elements holistically in response to a play text. These capstone projects demonstrate their ability to utilise design as a dramaturgical tool, with these skills being both valuable and transferrable across the wide variety of design disciplines that students will pursue upon completion.

The graphic design major provides students with practical and conceptual skills to undertake professional graphic design work.

Graphic designers work within print and digital based mediums to present information in ways that are both memorable and accessible. They are visual communicators—assembling illustrations, typography, images and motion graphics to create a piece of design.

Master of Production Design (Stage & Screen)

The graduates of the Master of Production Design (Screen) have completed specialist study in production design for screen and art direction.

The graduates of the Master of Production Design (Stage) have completed specialist study in set and costume design for live performance.

Guest lecturers from industry and staff who are also experienced practitioners ensure their training is relevant and current.

Through productions with their peers across the VCA and industry internships they have developed these folios of work that demonstrate the ingenuity, resourcefulness and creative skills they will bring to their professional careers.

Staff & Credits

The learning environment that our students enjoy is one that extends far beyond the classroom to include collaborations on VCA productions. We couldn't do this without the valuable contributions of our Fine Arts and Music colleagues. Thank you to all the people who have made this kind of learning environment possible.

With special mention of the Faculty of Fine Arts and Music professional staff who supported our students on productions, especially the Production Coordinators, Technical Support, Costume, and Workshop staff. The staff, students, and professional directors who collaborated with our students on VCA productions.
